What is RumbaTapLab:
RTL is THE resource for instructional material and interactive exchange of ideas about RumbaTap's artistic expression. You
will be able to purchase all RT instructional materials here, in both hardcopy and download format.
On this site we will explore all the essential ingredients and gradually introduce you to the creative possibilities of the
RumbaTap technique.
By explaining and breaking everything down we take a closer look at how all the rhythm and movement patterns work
together and what you can do with them.
There will be regular updates about technical hints, maintaining a healthy instrument (your body), listening suggestions, and
answers to questions you post in the blog.
RumbaTapLab will be an active part in Rumbatap's outreach activities.

THE COMPASS:
This concept will help you understand the musical and physical relationship between sound, silence, rhythm and time through
movement.
It will help you visualize and feel the exact placement of rhythms within the flow of the music.
Relevant to anybody who wants to play music or interact with it in any way, this approach will strengthen your sense of
musical time and help you grasp complex rhythms more quickly and easily
The following exercises are meant to give you a stronger feel for the subdivisions of the beat while maintaining an even
and relaxed feeling for the pulse of the music.
TUMBA AND CINQUILLO
These two basic syncopated patterns are only one measure in length. They are part of the foundation for the feel of Afro-
Cuban music. They are essential for understanding the concept of CLAVE because they create rhythmic tension and
excitement when repeated over and over. Both TUMBA and CINQUILLO can be used as accompaniment and as points of
departure for improvisation. They are indispensable in your musical vocabulary.
CLAVE AND TUMBA
The simultaneous playing of the SON CLAVE pattern with the Tumba drum pattern will deepen your feel, improve your
coordination and get you acquainted with the feeling of being a one-person percussion ensemble.
